SigmaNet is participating in the 7th Framework Project GÉANT3 since 2009. There are 30 members in the GÉANT3 network – National Research and Education networks from all over Europe and beyond. Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Education and Science, Latvian scientists can enjoy benefits of fast connectivity to the global academic network.
GÉANT3 users can access the global academic network in Europe and beyond as well as the commodity Internet. Currently Latvian scientists can use up to 2.5 Gb/s total connectivity which includes up to 175 Mb/s commodity traffic.
GÉANT3 network offers unlimited possibilities for research and collaboration, including virtual laboratories, tele and video conferencing, access to grid computing and storage resources, streaming, multicasting, dedicated light paths connecting end users, enhanced data security and much more.
Who can join GÉANT3 network?
All education and research institutions are eligible to use the GÉANT3 network. Non-profit organisations like libraries, museums, hospitals are allowed to connect too. Commercial companies can join GÉANT3 only if using it for non-commercial research projects.

How to participate?
The user has to obtain and finance the connectivity to SigmaNet premises in Riga, Raiņa bulvaris 29. SigmaNet’s specialists can help with specification of the connectivity and consultations. GÉANT3 data flow is free of charge, users have to cover the maintenance expenses according to the price list.
